X4 Foundations: Space Station Building Tutorial


so you’ve been watching too much HGTV
and now you’re inspired to get into owning your own property lucky for you
x4 foundations is a brow furrowing process to reach your wildest property
dreams join me as we learn how to build and manage your own stations before we
start go to a few high ship traffic locations and drop some satellites this
will be paramount later and I’ll explain in a bit now first things first
what is the purpose of owning a station stations can have a wide variety of uses
from production refining or even defense as long as you have the correct station
modules you can build about anything except the bridge to fix your
relationship between you and your dad what our station modules one may ask
station modules are what is used for different productions or objectives
within your space station for example a water production module will create
water from ice that is brought into your station or a drone component module will
create drone pieces that can be used or sold all modules have different purposes
and uses there are a few different ways to get stationed modules the first way
and probably the most obnoxious and cheap is to use your short-range scanner
to scan stations this will sometimes give you a blueprint of different
station modules just be sure to unlock research into story missions at your
player headquarters the second way is to locate a faction representative once you
find the snivelling politician ask them to show you their selection of modules
if you have the cash and in some case the reputation you can purchase modules
to your heart desires now these are a lot of modules and they can be very
overwhelming here are a few tips to help you the new entrepreneur out there are
three container types that your station will deal with in order to store its
goods a container module will store products and parts such as medical
supplies or meats a liquid storage will store liquids such as water while solid
storage will hold refined products brought in by or miners another tip is
some station modules need to be physically manned by a station crew
while others can be autonomous a space weed farm needs workers to man crops
while an energy cell producing stations gathers energy through solar panels
itself if your station is need of a workforce purchase a habitat module for
the workers to stay in on the station keep your end goal in mind as you
procure modules and complicated the end product the more
items you’ll need to produce it so choose if you will want to create those
items yourself or import them to your station to create your products now to
keep it simple you will choose to build the most basic starting station the
solar power plant station the solar power plant station produces energy
cells energy cells are the backbone of the universe all stations need energy
cells to power their different modules so there should be a decent demand for
energy cells the station is self-reliant and can
power itself with its own energy cells it produces and the best part is that it
produces a product from practically nothing the almighty power of the solar
rays dear lord the children so to build one make sure you have a container storage to store
your energy cells a decent sized hangar bay and the energy self production
modules now before you start building you need to get yourself a space of
space get yourself a chunk of space to build
in degree do this though remember location location location scout out a
perfect area for your station things you will need to look for our possible
resources in the area how safe the area will be and the other stations in the
area if you’re building a water production station then building near mine-able ice should be ideal putting your station in the middle of a
Zenon talati war zone might look cool but just would it be practical
and other stations can be anything from competitors to potential product buyers
you don’t want to build in an area inflated with your end product so for
example if you’re going to build your solar power plant station look for an
area that doesn’t have many others in it that way when other stations start
looking for energy cells to purchase you have the market corner for being the
closest and the most accessible for the sector once you think you found a sector
to build in select the manage plot button on the map menu here you’ll see a
floating green cube click the cube where you’re wishing to claim your
little piece of heaven a few factors will come into play here
the closer the claimed property is to a space freeway or a jump gate the more
expensive the property will be this is due to the property being easily
accessible and being a prime location for real estate the further away it is
from freeways or gates the cheaper it will be but the longer I’ll take for ships to

I recommend purchasing the plot now that you have your plot purchased you’re
ready to start laying the blueprint for your station go through the modules on
the left side of the screen and select what you’re wishing to place Egosoft has
made it easy to snap the modules together so have fun and get creative to
rotate the modules place them down and right click and hold rotating the module
make sure you have your docks storage and production sites placed and once
you’re done it’s time to start dishing out the funds on the right side of the
screen you’ll see the modules that you have placed under that there will be a
selection called build resources this section explains what resources will be
needed to construct your station you can either purchase these yourself and
transfer them to the station or give the funds to a construction vessel to get
the resources for you under manage buy offers for needed construction you will
see the price needed to buy all the resources here you can adjust the prices
you are willing to pay for the needed resources if you’re satisfied with the
prices you are wishing to shop in add the funds below and confirm if you do
not have the funds needed to construct your station click the
floppy disk icon on the top of the screen to save the blueprint if you wish
to come back to it or you can continue and add the funds as you get them now
it’s time to hire or assign a builder under builders click hire or assign if
you have your own construction ship good for you you can select it here not all
of us are this fortunate so we must hire one ourselves this is why I had you
place all the satellites in high-traffic areas here you must select a
construction ship from the map the only way to do this is if one happens to
drift across a location in the presence of a satellite or a player owned ship if
the gods of X4 have smiled upon you and you’re lucky enough to have one on
screen right-click on that sucker and press select the construction ship will
now be contracted out to you for the station’s construction this process will be long and tedious
the construction ship will eventually mosey its way up to the plot and build a
temporary supply cache to store the resources that are needed for the
construction it will then divvy up the funds you’re paying it with and start
having ships fly supplies to the temporary supply cache with the items
needed for the building soon after this you’ll see it starts
sending out its construction drones these will start building your station
module by module yes it will take time to complete yes the AI can be special and
the supplies to build can take forever to get there but be patient because the
end product is very much worth the headache now you have a station of your own a
station to do as you please with one that will produce wares for you or be a
war fortress to rent the Xenon onslaught just be sure to transfer someone over to
manage it for you once you have a manager there you can access the logical
overview of the station here you can manage prices to sell goods for see what
the station needs to produce your product and view the statistics of how
well your station is doing soon you’ll be able to grow your station and buy
more plots and before you know it you’ll be Chip and Joanning it up with a
whole economy of real estate of your own have fun pilots and stay safe out there daddy
