Island Style – ‘Oiwi E | Song Across Hawai’i | Playing For Change Collaboration

On the island we do it island style From the mountain to the ocean from the windward to the leeward side On the island, we do it island style From the mountain to the ocean from the windward to the leeward side Mama’s in the kitchen cooking dinner real nice.
Beef stew on the stove, lomi salmon with the ice We eat and drink and we sing all day
Kanikapila in the old Hawaiian way On the island, we do it island style From the mountain to the ocean from the windward to the leeward side. From the island, we do it island style From the mountain to the ocean, from the windward to the leeward side. We go grandma’s house on the weekend clean yard
If we no go, grandma gotta work hard You know my grandma, she like the poi real sour
I love my grandma every minute, every hour From the island, we do it island style From the mountain to the ocean, from the windward to the leeward side From the island, we do it island style From the mountain to the ocean, from the windward to the leeward side ‘Ōiwi e (‘Ōiwi e) (E) kāhea (ana) e nā ‘iwi e Ua ‘ike mai nei (Ua ‘ike mai nei) (i) ku‘u one hānau e Eia mai la (Eia mai la) Nā kupa‘āina o Hawai‘i nei Kāko‘o mai nei (Kāko‘o mai nei) Kūpa‘a lōkahi e “E kikilo e nā iwi!” Kikilo e nā iwi, e nā mamo e Nā kini makamaka e “E kūpaʻa ke kānaka” Kūpa‘a ke kānaka hanohano ha‘aheo e Kū ke kānaka (Kūpa‘a ke kānaka) hanohano ha‘aheo e ‘Ōiwi e (‘Ōiwi e) (E) kāhea (ana) e nā ‘iwi e Ua ‘ike mai nei (Ua ‘ike mai nei) (i) ku‘u one hānau e Eia mai la (Eia mai la) Nā kupa‘āina o Hawai‘i nei Kāko‘o mai nei (Kāko‘o mai nei) Kūpa‘a lōkahi e “E kikilo e nā iwi!” Kikilo e nā iwi, e nā mamo e Nā kini makamaka e “E kūpaʻa ke kānaka” Kūpa‘a ke kānaka hanohano ha‘aheo e Kū ke kānaka (Kūpa‘a ke kānaka) hanohano ha‘aheo e E Kū ke kānaka (Kūpa‘a ke kānaka) hanohano ha‘aheo e Kahi lua kolu ha – Kia Ora Hi!

  2. This song touches the deepest reaches of my soul! Good job folks!! Solid!! I'm trying to teach our kids our lineage. We have in Hawaii. Our culture is important to us. I cry when I think about what has been lost. Everytime I look at our cities here in Hawaii and how much damage it has done to our families, it breaks my heart. Awareness is one step forward!
