Heart of the High Plains: Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation

Meaghan: WELCOME BACK. ISM YOU KNOW, THE PLAYTEX YAS HAS — THE PLAY “TEXAS” HAS BEEN AROUND FOR YEARS. Meaghan: WE HAVE MORE ON HOW THE TEXAS HEARTAN FOUNDATION KEEPS THE LEGACY ALIVE IN THE TODAY’S HEART OF THE HIGH PLAINS. EVERY SUMMER THE AMPHITHEATER AT THE BOTTOM OF PALO DURO CANYON IS FULL OF EAGER FANS READY TO SEE “TEXAS” THE MUSICAL. IT’S SOMETHING DAVID URICH HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN FOR 40 YEARS. WELL, I CAME TO CANYON IN 1979 TO ACT IN THE SHOW. AND I’VE STAYED. IT’S BEEN 32 YEARS HERE TEACHING AT CANYON HIGH SCHOOL. AND THEN I TOOK OVER DIRECTING THE SHOW ABOUT 13 YEARS AGO. BECAUSE HE LOVES THE CREATIVITY DURING THE SHOW’S RUN EACH SEASON AND LOVES BEING ABLE TO TEACH OTHERS ABOUT THE ARTS. IF WE USUALLY GET SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 10, 12 DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES TO REACH OUT TO A BUNCH OF YOUNG KIDS DOWN AT THE CANYON. WE TEACH THEM A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SINGING, DANCING, AND ACTING. THE ARTS AND INTRODUCE THEM TO IT. HOPEFULLY SOME OF THEM WILL TAKE OFF WITH THAT AND PURSUE IT LATER ON IN LIFE. HE TELLS US THE PANHANDLE HERITAGE FOUNDATION IS HONORED TO SHOW OFF THE TRUE MEANING OF WHAT IT MEANS TO LIVE IN THE PANHANDLE, ESPECIALLY BY HONORING OR TROOPS. VETERANS WILL COME IN AND THAT WILL HAVE TEARS RUNNING DOWN THEIR CHEEKS. THEY SIMPLY SAY, THANK YOU FOR REMEMBERING US. THERE WILL BE SOME CHANGES THIS SEASON, BUT URICH SAYS YOU WILL HAVE TO GO TO SEE. IT’S STILL GOING TO HAVE ALL THE ICONIC MOMENTS, THE RIDER ON THE RIM, THE LIGHTNING BOLT, THE BEAUTIFUL SINGING AND DANCING. AND THE TRIBUTE TO OUR VETERANS AT THE END. THERE WILL BE SOME CHANGES. YOU NEED TO COME SEE IT. IN CANYON, ANGELINA PEREZ. KAMR LOCAL 4 NEWS. Meaghan: TEXAS BEGINS JUNE 1st IN PALO DURO CANYON. CATCH THE SHOW TUESDAYS THROUGH SUNDAYS UNTIL AUGUST 17th.
