Founders’ Day May 5, 2018, at Champoeg State Heritage Heritage Area

Close elections that have major consequences
are nothing new. One hundred seventy-five years ago it happened
here in Oregon in a place known as Champoeg. On May 5, of 2018, Oregon will celebrate one
of the most important days in its history. In fact, it is one of the most important days
in the history of the western United States. On May 2, 1843, a group of men gathered at
Champoeg to hold this significant vote that would change U.S. history. This vote established a provisional government
officially committed to joining with the United States instead of creating an independent country or joining with Great Britain. In recognition of the importance of the vote
taken at Champoeg in 1843 and the men and women who struggled to establish the land
we now call Oregon, Champoeg State Heritage Area will hold a day-long event celebrating
that accomplishment. May 5, 2018, will be filled with fun events,
demonstrations, and ceremonies commemorating the vote. Everyone can experience those special days
from 175 years ago that were so critical in shaping the world we now live in. Please join us for this unique event.
