Foundation issues, settling and cracks

Today’s Professionals brought to you by
the Basement Doctor. Hi everyone I’m here with John Clements the basement doctor
how are you doing today? Hi I’m great okay it looks like the dry spell is over
you know we’re heading into colder weather and getting a little bit of rain
but the damage has been done hasn’t it? Yes we’ve actually seen a tremendous amount
of settlement on houses this year where people are gonna be walking around their
house and giving an inspection they’re going to go
oh my and there’s this great big crack in their brick or the or the drywall is
open up on the inside and things like that and when you when you follow that
crack down and you see the way that it shifted around the windows or the way
that the brick has actually parted ways you know and the mortar joints have
these stair step pattern cracks look at the foundation below it. Okay.
You’ll notice the picture on the screen here of a white basement wall with this
giant crack when that wall shifted like that that brick upstairs went as well.
How urgent is it that you address it right away?
The severest I’ve ever seen was I saw the brick fall off of a house literally like
land in the yard and that in 24 years I’ve seen that one time so that rarely
rarely really ever happens but it gets to the point where you’re getting cold
air whistling through the house your heating bills are going up the moisture
gets trapped in those cracks and when that water freezes it’s going to expand
and cause the problem to get worse so you keep getting this small problem this
year bigger problem next year huge problem the following year you know
because it never is gonna heal itself or correct itself it’s just progressively
at its own pace keeps getting worse. Okay so folks should give you a call
you’ll come out provide a free estimate it’s a free estimate no high-pressure
sales we’re happy to stop out analyze it take a look and see what you need. Okay
great thanks John great information we’ll see you next time.
