Fine Arts BA (Hons)

Fine Arts BA (Hons)

Hi I’m Sue and I’m a first year part-time student Hi I’m Luc I’m in the second year Hi I’m Georgia and I’m a first year studying Fine Art Hi I’m Sean I’m a second year student and we are all studying BA Honours Fine Art at York St John University The course is mainly contemporary fine
art based you can do anything you want really So there’s absolutely no pressure
to go in to any particular direction if you don’t want to and we get a lot of visiting artists and things who come and talk to us about contemporary fine art practice so there is a lot of experience there that they give to us A whole range of students would apply for this course not just people coming in
straight from an A level foundation stage there are a few mature students
like me who’ve decided to come later any person who is in any way creative
would be great for this course if you like to think outside the box or just mindless
scribble anything its fine There are many opportunities to develop
professional practice on this course at the end of the second year there are work placements and really what they try and do is individually tailor placements or opportunities
for people who’ve got certain interests On the course we have the opportunity
to study abroad if we would like to and because all the lecturers have their own personal practices outside of lecturing we are encouraged to develop our own practice as well The support from the teaching staff is fantastic they put themselves out there and if
you ask them any questions they’ll get back to you It’s second to none really they’ve got such a wealth of experience and if you’ve got a question they’ll always have an answer for it The support and the knowledge and the experience that they bring is quite diverse and that’s really helpful My favourite aspect of the course
would probably be just that everyone gets along so well it doesn’t feel that it’s a chore to do your work because it’s a really really fun course to do The advice that I would give to somebody thinking of studying the course is to definitely embrace the experience – it’s a really exciting and demanding course Relish any opportunity you can to see art or talk about art or talk to artists because there is so much stuff out there for you to discover and just have fun with and really broaden your minds
