Clark County First Citizen Twyla Barnes 2014

Clark County First Citizen Twyla Barnes 2014

Visionary Professional Driven Compassionate Leader Thorough Smart Nice person Grace at all times Dr. Twyla Barnes is professional Smart Driven Nice person Warm Dynamic Visionary Is confident Leader Encourager Classy Well, I think Twyla cares about our community and
she’s a confident quiet leader She’s got a way about her where despite
people having disagreements she can find some commonality and and
ways to agree Her biggest strength to me is compassion
she cares so much about people and so much about kids that everything she tries to do is with
that in mind There are two projects that Twyla really
spearheaded while she was here one is the building
behind me the Furstenberg Tower that was an unbelievable undertaking 154 million
dollars I think and it was a huge deal for the medical
center to be doing but more importantly maybe and I think
probably closer to her heart was the new medical magnet school that
was built in conjunction with the Evergreen School District HELA High. She was instrumental in getting a Joe
Cordem who at that time was the CEO of the hospital to visit another one of these high
schools in San Antonio and once we got Joe there and with Twyla’s support and help, the hospital got inlisted in
helping us get this done and with their help we were able to accomplish this. The thing you have to understand about that board at that time there was a lot of intellectual
horsepower on that board so the these were not people that were willing
to just kinda go along with whatever their chair thought was the best course. Oh I think the whole
school success story we’ve got kids here that are just lovin their experience. We’ve got a good
partnership with the hospital and and other medical providers and just a wonderful experience for kids
who are interested in health care field and we think it’s going to make a huge
difference in the future employment for our health care providers Twyla chose to get involved with the trust because education its core value and education
is Twyla’s core value so it was an easy connection to make for Twyla to be involved with the trust
but not just to be involved, Twyla led all of our major initiatives with regard
to our educational programming This place here opened in June 15, 2004 and it’s just a remarkable
place we could not have done it without Twyla’s leadership she’s done an enormous amount for early
education in our community and she’s a very strong
and effective leader I think that’s a reason why we’ve been
able to accomplish so much and it’s just been wonderful to work
with her. More recently she’s introduced us to some super tennents out in the the gorge area White Salmon and Bingen, Stevenson and now Clark College is really extending its efforts out in that area
and a large part is due to Twyla’s efforts in getting us connected out there in
introducing us to some the key folks out here in that area. We’re here at the land bridge and the glass piece that you see here it’s
reminiscent of ‘she who watches’ and that is the
definition of Twyla Barnes. She understood the mission up confluence project and our work up and down the Columbia River and made us feel good about it. Couple of times we were able to go to Olympia together and try and influence legislators and both of us would walk outta there
going well that was a real waste of our time. For all this though it became a passion
and once you get into its kinda like the La Brea Tar Pits. Once your foot is in the sand, you’re not getting out. Can’t outlook the fact that she’s a very classy person and really lights up a room when she comes in. So glad she’s First Citizen. She’s First Citizen in many people’s hearts and a wonderful human being I’m so honored to be able to
say good word things about her because its easy. She’s very very
deserving of the First Citizen of 2014. Twyla this is just something for you for your
wonderful career in education in a community leader and it’s it’s a respectful thing for you. Ooya!
